A color version of my drawing of Hlin, Norse Goddess of Consolation.
My birthday is this month, so I’m extending a special for the month of October. Half off of portrait commissions done in pencil. Sign up now to reserve your spot before it fills up! Why would you want a portrait?
Preserve a special moment in time of your baby or child
Memorialize someone who has passed on
Get a wonderful original work of art to pass down to your kids
I’m happy to do people or animals for this special. I just need some photos to work from. They can be sent through email. Contact me now and you can get your portrait in time for the holidays.
This is a picture I drew of my father-in-law, Richard Rakestraw. He left this world last February and is sorely missed. I drew it for my husband and my mother-in-law in the hopes that they would have happy memories every time they saw it. It is hard when you are missing someone who has passed on. You can’t just call them on the phone or send them an email. When you lose someone who is really special to you, it creates a hurt deep inside that it takes a long time to heal. It doesn’t matter if you lose a spouse, a friend, a parent or a child… it hurts. I hope that my gift will help those people special to me to feel a little better when they enjoy the picture.
I was born in October, so I am sharing the celebration with all of you. My gift is 50% off my regular prices for portrait drawings all month long from today, Oct 1 through Halloween. If you’ve always wanted to commemorate your baby, your growing child or someone dear to you that has passed on, now is the time to get a beautiful drawing for a bargain. These drawings also make excellent gifts for the holidays. Check out my rate page on the side to see the sizes I offer and my normal prices. You’ll see what a deal I’m offering.
C’mon… help me celebrate by doing something special for you and your family.
If you have a sweet newborn photo that just captures all that magical energy that newborns have when they’re born, I’d love to draw it.
Anyone who sends photos for any of my requests gets a free .jpg of the finished drawing. I keep the photo with your contact information, so if it takes awhile to get to that particular photo, I still know who it belongs to.
I only draw from references that I have the permission to use, so if you’d like to share, let me know! My goal is to have enough reference photos for my various projects to keep me busy for the next year.
As work continues on a very special portrait, I am already planning a few series for the future. I want to do the following series:
Faces of Midwifery
Faces of Labor
Faces of Motherhood
Do you want to help make these drawings come alive? I need reference photos! Faces, please. Midwives, laboring moms and moms with their babies. You can post a comment here if you have anything you think may be appropriate. I’d like to eventually set these up for exhibition at birth conferences and other similar venues.
C’mon… you could be immortalized in art!
Ideally, I want more than just a picture of someone smiling at the camera. I’d like some candid shots of moms and midwives in the midst of their work. I want to capture the expressions, love, and intensity that birth brings.
One of those sweet moments when baby falls asleep while nursing and Mom feels like she could gaze at him or her for hours. This drawing was done for someone who won a custom drawing from me in the Saving Penises auction that raised money to promote education about keeping baby boys intact. I really enjoyed drawing this piece; it took me back to the days when I had a newborn who cuddled at my breast.
